DGOJ Reports Spain's Casino Revenues Up 52.5%
According to the new figures released by Spain’s gambling regulator Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ), those who chose to invest in the ‘dot es’ market are enjoying yet another positive performance this year.
Gambling in Spain is up 22 percent in Q2 2017 compared to the same quarter of 2016, and analysts believe the market’s growth is here to stay.
The industry’s total revenues reported during Q2-2017 are slightly lower than those from the first three months of the year (EUR 121.3m vs. EUR 122.7), but this small decline is part of an international trend that has little to do with the habits and likings of Spain’s players.
It’s All About The Slots
Numbers don’t lie: Spain’s players love online slots and they are not going to quit playing anytime soon.
Q2 casino revenues are up 52.5 percent y-o-y for a total of €42.9m with online slots being the main driver of this staggering growth.
Since the DGOJ decided to authorise the launch of slots games in Spain's regulated market back in 2015, everyone’s favorite have reported impressive numbers one quarter after the other.
This year’s Q2 makes no exception, with the revenue generated by legal online slots being up 84 percent y-o-y to EUR 21.5m.
Slots, however, are not the only games Spaniards play - as the other casino classics closed the second quarter of the year in the black, too.
As the DGOJ shows, Blackjack revenues are up 10.2 percent y-o-y for a total of nearly EUR 5m. Online roulette did slightly better with a 11.5 percent y-o-y growth and reported revenues for €6.8m.
Tournaments Keep Poker In The Black
Online poker isn’t doing that bad, either. While the country's poker players wait (patiently) for the launch of a shared market between Spain, Italy, France, and Portugal - the numbers coming from the country's ring-fenced market are not that bad.
While Spain’s cash game stakes are down 5.5 percent - but, again, this is part of a global trend -, the market was kept in the black by the healthy rise of tournament poker, where the entry fees went up 16,5 percent compared to 2016.
