Let’s be honest.
If an online Casino has Video Poker games, it usually has these two. Or one of them.
But what if you want to play something different and expand your Video Poker horizons?
Then this article is the perfect place to start.
Don’t know how to play Video Poker? You can find the rules of Video Poker here.
Before I go into details of each game, let’s refresh what we know about Video Poker.
Before You Play Different Types of Video Poker...
How to play Video Poker?
Most of Video Poker games follow the same rules:
- You get a five-card hand
- You choose which card(s) to keep (to draw)
- Remaining cards are replaced with new ones
- You either get a winning hand out of it or lose
In classic Video Poker, you win if you have a qualifying card combination, e.g. Two Jacks or a better hand.
The payouts also follow the classic Poker card rank. The Royal Flush has the highest payout, then goes the Straight Flush, Four of a Kind, Full House, etc. - you know the drill.
But in different types of Video Poker things can differ.
Video Poker games can have:
- different payouts for the same hands - always check out the pay tables!
- different rank of the most paying hands - Royal Flush is not always the best hand.
- different qualifying hands - a pair of tens or jacks (or better), three of a kind hands, etc.
How to beat Video Poker machines?
You cannot beat Video Poker machines every time.
BUT you can (and should) choose the games that have a better payback percentage (the return to the player percentage aka RTP). Also, better payouts for different hands.
Best Types of Video Poker to Try in 2019
Without further ado, let’s discover different types of Video Poker games.
Follow the links on this page to try them all for free or to play for real money.
Aces and Eights Video Poker
If you know your Poker facts, you’ve probably heard the story about the dead man’s hand.
Supposedly, it’s a hand that was held by Wild Bill Hickok when he was murdered in 1876.
Don’t worry, though. Playing Aces and Eights Video Poker is NOT deadly.
The game follows the general rules of Video Poker. The bets start at 0.25 and the qualifying hand at Aces and Eights Video Poker is a Pair of Jacks or better.
The only twist in the payouts come when you encounter a Four of a Kind:
- if it’s a four of Aces or 8s, you win from 80 to 400 coins (depending on your wager)
- if it’s 7s, then from 50 to 250 coins
- if it’s any other kind, then from 20 to 100 coins
After every win, there’s a Gamble feature where you can double your winnings.
You get a random card face up and need to pick another one from the cards facing down. If you pick a higher value card, you win.
Double Joker Video Poker
Double Joker is a classic game of Video Poker with one exception:the deck of cards used includes Joker cards.
They work as a wild card, substituting other cards in the game.
The ranking of cards is modified by this fact, too. You can get a Natural Royal Flush (without a wild card) or Joker Royal Flush (involving the wild card).
Natural one pays out a lot better, of course.
And then you can have a Five of a Kind, since there is a Joker involved. Also, it makes Two Pairs the qualifying hand.
All Aces Video Poker
All Aces Video Poker is all about Aces.
You may cheer when you get a Royal Flush, but in this game, Four of Aces pays better.
Let’s say, you bet the minimum - one coin with the value of 0.25. Then you can win:
- 100 coins with Four Aces
- 62.50 coins with a Royal Flush
- 12.50-25 coins with Four of a Kind
- 15 coins with a Straight Flush
Other cards rank the same order as in other Poker games. You need a Pair of Jacks or better to win.
There’s also a Double feature included: you can double your win if you choose a face down card with a higher value than the one you get first.
Aces and Faces Video Poker
Once again, the title of this type of Poker suggests you can expect higher payouts from the Aces and face cards.
And it’s very true.
Four Aces here pay better than a Straight Flush and four of face cards pay more than four of other value cards.
With a one coin (0.25 value) wager you can win:
- 500 coins with a Royal Flush
- 80 coins with Four Aces
- 50 with a Straight Flush
You need at least a Pair of Jacks to qualify. Doubling feature is available after each win.
Deuces and Joker Video Poker
Deuces and Joker is the type of Video Poker for risk-takers. The qualifying hand here is the Three of a Kind, which already tells you big winnings won’t be paid out too frequently.
Unless you land a really good hand, that is.
Deuces and Joker Video Poker has wild cards and Joker cards. They can substitute for all the other cards except for Natural Royal Flush (hence, the word natural) and Four Deuces cases.
That would be some of the most paying hands in the game.
The second best hand is the Natural Royal Flush. It pays out 250-4000 coins. If you happen to get a Royal Flush with wilds, then the payout decreases to 12-60 coins.
Four Deuces award you with 25-125 coins and make up the third best hand in the game.
Louisiana Double Video Poker
Louisiana Double Video Poker is different from other types because it features a Double card.
Don’t mix it with the Double feature which enables gambling with the winnings. Double is a card that multiplies your winnings instead.
As long as the Double card is in the winning hand.
It doesn’t work as a wild card either.
Other than that, Louisiana Double Video Poker follows the same rules. It pays out according to the classic Poker hand rank and you need only Jacks or better to qualify.
Royal Flush pays up to 2500 coins.
Tens or Better Power Video Poker
To understand Tens of Better Power Video Poker, you need to know two things:
- the qualifying hand is tens or better (duh)
- power in the title means there are not one but four hands played at the same time.
Power Poker starts the same way as any other type of Video Poker. You get five cards and you choose which one(s) to keep.
Except, the kept card make up only one new hand in other Video Poker games. In Power Video Poker it becomes a part of four new hands.
And the winnings of each hand are combined.
Naturally, the bets are also higher. The payouts resemble other types of Video Poker, e.g. you can win up to 4000 coins with the Royal Flush.
P.S. Playing with four hands is not a specific feature for Tens or Better Poker. You can also play Power Poker with Jacks or Better, Deuces Wild, Aces and Faces, Double Joker, and Deuces and Joker Video Poker games.
Hold’em High Poker
Hold’em High is a completely different type of online Poker.
It’s a variation of Texas Hold’em Poker and resembles Casino Hold’em rather than previously mentioned Video Poker games.

Instead of five cards, you’re dealt two. And there’s no drawing involved - you either call, raise, or fold, like in other Poker games.
The dealt cards need to form a hand together with the community cards. You need two pair (Jacks or better) to qualify.
The payouts are as follows:
|Royal Flush||500 to 1|
|Straight Flush||100 to 1|
|Four of a Kind||25 to 1|
|Full House||10 to 1|
|Flush||7 to 1|
|Straight||5 to 1|
|Three of a Kind||2 to 1|
|Two Pair (Jacks or better)||1 to 1|
You can also make side bets and/or play with up to five hands at a time.
